Welcome to the ExpatMauritius.com Blog

There are many facets of expatriate life that come as a total surprise. It is easy for outsiders to get the wrong idea about expatriate life: a perception that combines romanticism and leisure, adventure and pleasure, a better life, a hope, a future. It is seen as a privileged lifestyle and envied by those who stay behind. These qualities may, in some way or another, be present in the expatriate lifestyle, but with them also come the sacrifices, discipline, energy, focus, determination, self-discipline and connectedness that enable you to keep yourself together. We are relocating to Mauritius. What is the best advice you can give to settle them quickly?

Teenagers are about friends - sport it is always a good place to start the integration.

Living here now for 19 months with a teenager and we were slightly dissapointed at first. I do believe that sport and friends are very important in relocating a teenager, but be warned...there are not that many sporting opportunities in the schools here and you need to get involved in after school sports. But having said that there are many other wonderful things for teenagers here. It is a very safe and outdoor way of life.

Where would I be able to find the after school sports? How are the teenagers in general? Do you find language a problem?

That place is a paradise to visit, and in my info, French and English are spoken there.
