Welcome to the ExpatMauritius.com Blog

There are many facets of expatriate life that come as a total surprise. It is easy for outsiders to get the wrong idea about expatriate life: a perception that combines romanticism and leisure, adventure and pleasure, a better life, a hope, a future. It is seen as a privileged lifestyle and envied by those who stay behind. These qualities may, in some way or another, be present in the expatriate lifestyle, but with them also come the sacrifices, discipline, energy, focus, determination, self-discipline and connectedness that enable you to keep yourself together. Meeting people...

I’m new to Mauritius – am over here working in Port Louis, for 4 months, from New Zealand.

I’m staying with a lovely family, but am finding it extremely difficult to meet people – many of the women’s events seem to be during the daytime – ie working hours.

Could anyone give me information about any book clubs/gatherings etc that are open to all to join? I’ve already heard about the Hash house Harriers and will try that this weekend..

I am looking for activities for small boys in Mauritius. We are new to this country & looking for ozzie/kiwi or english speaking families for socialising on the weekends & during the week, either after school for play times or coffee mornings etc.
We live in the Flic en Flac area.

Hi, I am an expat woman, new on this island, married with no kids. I'm enjoying life on the island but could do with more friends to hang out and have coffee mornings and afternoon lunches in Black river/ Tamarin area. Anyone who is like-minded?

Hi i'm new to mauritius and am looking for some new friends for my kids and of course myself, to meet in the tamarin area. I have an 8 year old boy and a 1 year old daughter and don't know anyone yet - oh dear! I'm british and my husband is french so we all speak both. Are there any play groups round here during the day for my daughter? Or do people just use the creches? Tiny tots looks seemed quite good. Anyway, help! Julie xx
