Welcome to the ExpatMauritius.com Blog

There are many facets of expatriate life that come as a total surprise. It is easy for outsiders to get the wrong idea about expatriate life: a perception that combines romanticism and leisure, adventure and pleasure, a better life, a hope, a future. It is seen as a privileged lifestyle and envied by those who stay behind. These qualities may, in some way or another, be present in the expatriate lifestyle, but with them also come the sacrifices, discipline, energy, focus, determination, self-discipline and connectedness that enable you to keep yourself together. Sporting events in Mauritius

I am looking for info on any mountain bike or road cycle events. I had heard about one that goes over 3 days around the island and you stop over at night at hotels - but then I think this is a private tour organized by a few people, so may have my wires crossed. So any info on cycle events would be great.

If anybody is interested about Offshore skiing, there are races organised in Grand Bay nearly every 6-7 weeks. If you don t have a boat or equipment, there is always someone who can help provide. Races start at Grand Bay Yacht Club.

I believe that cycling is a rather new but is growing in popularity in MU. Mauritius does hold an annual Tour de Mauritius. This year it is on 12 Oct. I am also a keen / semipro road cyclist and am looking for cycling clubs or groups that go out to train on a regular basis. Will be relocating to MU in July 09.

Have a look at they www.joovance.com Promotions Sports events and Adventures in Mauritius. There is also an Event Calendar with the upcoming events - it's great!

I agree with the above post, Joovance (www.joovance.com) is a great company and their website is great too. The staff is very friendly and helped me to find sport events that I can participate in. They are not huge and over-commercialised so you still get that personal service. Have a look at www.joovance.com and speak to them about cycling, running races etc.

I've been a resident in MRU for 14 years and have competed in the Deutsche Bank 100K cycle race many times. It's great, very scenic around the island race - from Mahebourg to Mont Choisy. check it out at this link:

I know there are some other 100K races but I've never managed to find out who organises them.

Hi all

Don't mean to be pushy but I can't keep up with all the posts with video links, news links, music links ... well, you get the picture ... so from now on I'll post anything newsworthy here instead of typing it out ... too hard for me ... and the addresses to any other subjects that I think you all might be interested in. It would be nice if you did the same so I can just come here & get the updates rather than combing through all the other threads. Hope this is okay with all of you ..

here's are some:
